The 2026 Australian Open tennis tournament is fast approaching, marking the beginning of this year's ATP and WTA Grand Slam events.

The pre-tournament narrative: Can anyone beat Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz? The stars combined to win all four majors last year. To no surprise, they're the favourites to win this marquee event. On the women's side, two-time Aussie Open champ Aryna Sabalenka tops the odds board.

Check out the Australian Open tennis odds and key schedule dates for the 2026 tournament, which kicks into high gear with the main draw on Jan. 18.

Men’s Australian Open contenders

  • Sinner won the previous two Australian Opens and is in search of a three-peat, something Novak Djokovic has accomplished twice. The 24-year-old Italian reached the final of all four majors last year and won four other ATP events.
  • This is the only major Alcaraz hasn't won in his career. But his two major victories in 2025, including the French Open, saw him enter 2026 as the No. 1-ranked men's player. Alcaraz lost in the quarterfinals in each of the last two Australian Opens.
  • One of those losses came to Alexander Zverev, who's ranked No. 3 in the world and is fourth on the odds board. Zverev has yet to win a Grand Slam but has done well at the Aussie Open, reaching the finals last year and the semis in 2024.
  • Alcaraz's other quarterfinal loss at the Australian Open came to Djokovic, who has won a record 10 titles at this tournament. Djokovic's last major victory was in 2023.

  • Sabalenka is looking to continue her streak of dominance at the Australian Open. The Belarusian superstar has made three consecutive finals at this major, becoming a back-to-back winner in 2023-24. The hardcourt plays right into Sabalenka's strengths, and she appears destined for another strong performance.
  • This is the only major tournament No. 2-ranked Iga Swiatek hasn't won, but she has two semifinal finishes (2022, 2025). Swiatek has won six majors in her career, including the 2025 Wimbledon tournament.
  • Last year's winner, Madison Keys, comes into this tournament with the sixth-shortest odds to repeat as champion. This is historically her best tournament with a 34-10 record, for a 77% winning percentage, and her only major win.
  • Naomi Osaka is another two-time Aussie Open champ. She does her best work in hardcourt tournaments, where she has won four Grand Slam titles. But Osaka has failed to make it out of the third round since 2021.

Top Canadians at the Australian Open

  • Felix Auger-Aliassime (+8,000)
  • Denis Shapovalov (+30,000)
  • Victoria Mboko (OTB)
  • Leylah Fernandez (+15,000)

Auger-Aliassime: The 23-year-old has never advanced past the quarterfinals in this tournament but enters as the No. 5-ranked men's player. He has a 13-6 record and a 68% winning percentage at this Grand Slam event, his highest mark in any major tournament.

Shapovalov: The left-handed Shapovalov is way down the board as a +30,000 choice to win. But Shapovalov has a chance to win some matches, as he's a better player on hard courts and won two ATP events in 2025.

Mboko: She soared from unknown to close out the year as the No. 18-ranked women's player in the world. The 19-year-old will be an intriguing player to watch after defeating some big names in 2025 and capturing the Canadian Open title.

Fernandez: With a lifetime 4-6 record at the Australian Open, this has historically been a tough tournament for the 23-year-old. Fernandez won two matches last year before Coco Gauff eliminated the Canadian in the third round.
